  4. How do I import/convert my Microsoft Money data to work in Quicken for Windows?

I have contacted Parallels support who claim the problem will be corrected in a future version of Parallels Desktop - but as exactly the same problem occurs when trying under VMWare I am very doubtful and feel sure it is something stupid I am doing! Are you sharing files between the Mac and Windows VM? If so, can you disable this and try again. I'm thinking that if this is the case that the Mac OS may be interfering here.

About the permissions, right click on the file - security tab - and make sure that the VM's user has full rights to the Money backup file. I don't see why this doesn't work. Where is the source file located when trying to restore? Have you tried copying it to the Parallels virtual machine? I don't see why it does not work either! Thanks for the suggestion but I have tried copying the file into the Parallels VM file store, reading it from a Dropbox file, reading a CD and from a USB stick - all with the same result.

Unfortunately Money does exactly what I need and I have 12 years of stock movements etc which I do not want to loose.

There is no international version of Quicken now and I cannot find any suitable personal finance application for either a PC or a Mac which will successfully import the historical data. What about permissions to the backup file. Before trying to restore, give that file full permissions to the VM's user. If that doesn't work, how about creating a new Money file on the VM using the same name as the one you're trying to restore.

Once the new company has been created, try restoring the original. It could very well be a permissions thing. I would start there. Perhaps reset the permissions on it. Not sure if I had to do anything special to make it work.

I know Fusion created a file share between the 2 OSs, so I can keep all the files on the Mac side of things to allow Dropbox to auto backup the file. Thank you all for your assistance and advice. Unfortunately it is still not working. Under the Parallels Desktop, the folder in which the money file is created was set with the attribute of 'read only' in the file properties section which I cleared immediately before running Money but the program failed. The folder's attribute had been set back to read only.

I reset it once more to clear the read only and after starting Money checked it just before I tried to restore backup file and it was clear however the restore still failed and the read only attribute had been reset to readonly! Maybe someone could tell me how I should give full permission as AceofSpades suggests? I feel it has to be something to do with the read-only attribute.

I have my MacBook with me today. At lunch, I'll see if the imported file is still on the system, and if so, what perms and location I have it in. Thank you again for the suggestions. Regarding the Permissions - actually that is what I was doing but wondered if I was correct!

The file was marked read only - which should be fine, you aren't going to write to it anyway - just read the contents. Again - I will try to play around again tonight, from copying a backup on Windows to a USB drive, and restoring it on Mac. I have an issue. Any ideas? Some users seem to be experiencing random messages such as this one while others have no problem at all. If you can access the file menu or Preferences in Money, try turning-off the automatic software updates in Money if there is one.

Really looking forward to getting my MSMoney up and running! I got stuck after 12 when I received the message We were unable to load a required library autoupdate.

It seems to be related to an autoupdate. Are you able to access the Microsoft Money preferences menu and switch off auto-updates? So, I can follow all the instructions and everything seems right, but when I open Microsoft Money, it just looks blank. I feel so close, but am missing something. I have El Capitan Any help would be super. Although this tutorial works for most people, some users have been reporting random issues depending on their exact setup with OS X and Wine.

If you figure it out for your specific case, let us know!

Hi Bryan, A few users have had this issue and it seems to be a bug related to Wineskin. The best thing to do is post the issue on the Wineskin forum and they will be able to advise better. I have tried to use wine for various times over the past 8 months, but it always gets hung up at Step Security software on your computer may have interfered, or the servers that provide the download may be temporarily unavailable.

I am also using IE6, and this would only work if I downloaded the Wine Gecko Installer which is not supposed to be necessary. The links to download IE6 and IE7 are no longer valid, so I have been downloading from the oldversion.

Thanks in advance. Hope it helps. When I open MSMoney I just see a blank screen with menu bar at the top and the icon is the arrow and the hourglass.
